This lovely piece of fairly large vintage folk art tapestry, likely originated in Peru. Love the strong graphic quality of the hand embroidered figurative characters. The cloth itself is assembled of two narrower (likely hand woven) parts. Bothe the material and embroidery floss appear to be made of wool or at least wool blend. I did the burn test on a strand from the background material and it behaved like wool would. I would date this piece to the 1970s-80s or so.
The tapestry measures approximately 66 (width) x 44”. The piece is in good vintage condition, but by no means is it perfect. There is one thinned spot (not a hole) and overall this piece has a rustic feel.
