This appears to be a reproduction piece inspired by pre-Columbian ceramic figures, possibly from the Colima culture of West Mexico.

No chips or cracks. This piece is in fantastic vintage condition!

The figure is seated with its hands resting on its knees and has a distinctive bird-like face, which could represent a shaman or a figure with spiritual significance. The body is reddish-brown, and there are incised decorations on the chest.

Pre-Columbian art from this region often featured animals and human-animal composites, reflecting the cultures' beliefs and practices. The figure's posture and facial features are characteristic of Colima pottery, which is known for its expressive and often narrative style. Such figures were frequently placed in tombs as offerings, intended to accompany and protect the deceased in the afterlife. The incised designs might have symbolic meanings related to the figure's role or status.
